Hula Grill in Whaler’s Village - Lahaina, Maui

Just down the walk from the Sheraton Maui, is a cool little restaurant called the Hula Grill. The restaurant has an interesting twist to it over others in the area in that they strictly use locally grown vegetables and meats (Maui Cattle Co. provides the beef which is exceptional!) The atmosphere of the restaurant is divided in two… overlooking the ocean between Lanai and Molokai you have the Barefoot Bar which going barefoot is quite appropriate since the floor of the bar is sand! The other side of the restaurant, within full view and earshot of the live music from the barefoot side, is an outdoor dining room with beautiful Teak deck tables and Tiki torches.
As we sat outside overlooking the ocean and listening to the waves crashing, our dining experience started with a Wood-Fire Grilled Ahi Tuna Caesar Salad, and an Onion Tomato, and Goat Cheese Vinaigrette Salad. Followed by the Macadamia crusted Mahi-Mahi and grilled asparagus, and the Maui Seafood Chowder (a bouillabaisse-like chowder using coconut milk instead of cream with locally caught prawns, lobster, and scallops, and vegetables) Mouth watering to say the least… Not only are these dishes creative in their combinations, the use of the local agriculture sets these dishes apart as the flavors are just amazing. If you get to Maui, definitely lookup the Hula Grill.
