Wednesday's Rush Limbaugh Morning Update:
Dateline: 10 March 2010

Quick question: When two of the most liberal, mean-spirited, and partisan Democrats craft legislation, how should Republicans respond? Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr, thinks they ought to jump onboard and help out.

The issue is "Citizens United," the Supreme Court decision that has Democrats panicked. The Court held that the First Amendment does allow corporations to spend their own money on advocacy messages during election cycles.

Senator "Chuck-U" Schumer and Congressman Chris Van Hollen, the Democrats in charge of helping elect more Democrats, have written legislation that would place multiple burdens on corporations sponsoring these advocacy ads. Certain companies, including domestic businesses with foreign owners, would be barred outright... this, from the party advocating amnesty for illegal foreign workers! And the bill would also force broadcasters to sell ads to politicians at "the lowest unit rate" and provide them with "reasonable access to airtime" -- for free!

E.J. Dionne writes: "Liberals and Democrats are already mobilizing to fight against 'Citizens United' because they fear the impact of unconstrained corporate activity on elections and legislation. But conservatives and Republicans should also be alarmed that this decision could encourage politicians to extort campaign spending from businesses."

Now they tell us! Obama is taking over entire sectors of the economy, and E.J. worries about politicians extorting campaign spending? Unions aren't even mentioned in this bill, although they gave Obama alone over $400 million last cycle.

The proper response from Republicans is simple: "Chuck-U, Schumer, and Chuck-U, Van Hollen!" Case closed; it's easy.
